Profile | Gary McInerney
After graduating from Notre Dame Law School in 1973, Gary joined Varnum and practiced law. He then became the founder and president of the Grand Rapids law firm Murphy, Burns & McInerney, where he was a highly respected and successful trial attorney for 40 years.
Throughout his career, Gary McInerney has been appointed to high level positions and served our community. He was the chair of the Fifth Congressional District Democratic Party, received multiple appointments from Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow and was nominated as a candidate for the United States Congress.
Along with his board and other leadership positions within the government, McInerney has been involved in professional service organizations, including the Grand Rapids Rotary Club, YWCA, Catholic Social Services and many others, often serving as president of the board of directors or executive board. Nearly 30 organizations have benefitted from his commitment to making west Michigan a better place to live and work.
Many of McInerney’s accomplishments were highlighted in a 2005 Inside Track article in the Grand Rapids Business Journal. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and has served as chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee.
In recent years, McInerney has focused on his consulting business, McInerney & Associates Consulting, helping organizations of all shapes and sizes navigate the complex and changing landscape of today’s legislative, healthcare and business climate.
